When the ACA Medicaid expansion began in 2018 it presented an opportunity for many Virginia residents to access free or low cost coverage for the very first time. The YI Virginia team got to work providing new expansion information, health insurance literacy workshops, and direct application assistance. Since 2018 we have
- Educated 1034 people online and in person on health insurance literacy,
- engaged 3310 Virginia’s in person and 400,000+ online with consumer education on healthcare literacy and access
- enrolled 540 individuals and families in healthcare coverage and
- referred 215 Virginia residents to free and low cost health resources in the area.
The YI Virginia team continues to work through the ever changing landscape of healthcare and support health equity by staying up to date with local and national health policy and share with consumers, create new ways to reach underserved and minority populations and continue to provide consumer education on:
- Finding health insurance and where to go for care
- Accessing mental health services in Virginia
- And utilizing free preventive care
We will continue to grow our efforts throughout Northern Virginia and identify opportunities to push our work forward and help Virginia’s stay insured and get access to care.
