Young Invincibles Acquires Association of Young Americans
The Move Bolsters Youth Advocacy in Capitol Hill & Beyond
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, after six years of growth and success, the Association of Young Americans (AYA) formally announced they will be merging with its youth advocacy partners, Young Invincibles (YI). In an effort to expand their capacity, the organizations will work together to increase their ability to move policy priorities forward, further empower young people in the political process and affect change on the issues that matter most to their constituencies. They will be combining their membership, elevating young adult interests, bolstering their presence in the advocacy space, and operating under the Young Invincibles name.
The Association of Young Americans was established in 2016 to advance the policies and legislation important to young people ages 18-35. The organization offers its members tools for advocacy, participation in lobbying meetings on Capitol Hill, regular news updates for staying informed, and opportunities to influence the organization’s issue agenda with their opinions and experiences.
Young Invincibles was founded in 2009 with a mission to amplify the voices of young adults in the political process and expand economic opportunities for people ages 18 to 34. YI has taken on issues related to health care, higher education, economic security, and civic engagement. The organization fosters young leaders through its Young Advocates Program, it elevates the stories of young adults, delivers consumer education, and produces cutting-edge policy research and analysis, providing tools for our generation to make informed economic choices.
Over the years, both organizations have worked together on policy initiatives within higher education and health care, and plan to expand their capacity for impact within these issue areas and others into the future.
In response, Kristin McGuire, Executive Director for Young Invincibles issued the following statement:
“Today marks an important step in expanding young adult power in our nation. Alone, one can move faster, but together we can go far. We are very excited about the possibilities our merger will unlock and the progress we can forge on behalf of all young people.
Together, we will leverage the strength and resources of both our organizations to move the younger generation’s policy priorities forward, expand the young adult footprint, and strengthen our Congressional relationships.
Young people represent the future of our nation. Their success will determine the long-term resilience and growth of our economy, civil society, and our democracy. Our mutual commitment to building young adult power remains undeterred and the combined force will bolster our work for years to come.”
Lisa Giordano, Executive Director for the Association of Young Americans issued the following statement:
“We are beyond excited to announce the continuation of our advocacy work under the trusted leadership of our long-time partners, Young Invincibles.
If there is one thing we have learned over the past six years at the Association of Young Americans, it’s that this work cannot be done alone – there is, truly, power in numbers. Joining forces with Young Invincibles will increase our capacity to advance the policies important to young people and significantly expand young Americans’ political representation across all 50 states.
Today’s merger is a substantive victory for the future of our generation, the health of our democracy, and the economic prospects of all young Americans in the 21st Century.”
