Statement on the General Election
Washington, DC – Today, the most consequential Presidential Election continues to unfold as votes are tallied across the nation. The candidates must reach the 270 Electoral College vote threshold to win the United States Presidency. Currently, President Trump has secured 213 electoral votes, while Vice President Biden has secured 227 electoral votes.
In response, Rachel Fleischer, Executive Director for Young Invincibles, issued the following statement.
This election will only be decided once all votes are tallied. It is imperative that every vote is counted and the American people’s will is brought to bear. This election is the most consequential Presidential contest of our lifetimes. Everything is at stake. The character of our nation is on the line. Democracy is on the line. Health care is on the line. Education is on the line. Human rights are on the line. Our future is on the line.
The reality is that President Trump and Vice President Biden remain in a close contest still awaiting final results from several states. This race is not over.
Yet with every Tweet claiming victory and every falsehood about mail-in voting, President Trump seeks to stoke chaos and delegitimize election results. We must not give an inch to these baseless claims that lack any basis in the law – and instead must focus our attention on joining together to ensure every vote is counted.
The urgent challenges confronting our nation and the outcome of this election require all of us to remain unflinching in the face of false flags and unfounded claims. It takes more than sowing distrust and veiled threats to shake the resilience and fortitude of our republic. Every vote counts and this election is not over until all of them have been tabulated.
Regardless of the outcome, know this: Young Invincibles will keep fighting for what is right and just.
