Civic Engagement
Shaping the future through voting, advocacy, and civic education.
Civic engagement is at the center of everything we do at Young Invincibles because young people deserve a powerful voice in the decisions that shape our futures. By voting and getting involved, young adults can influence policies on education, jobs, health care, and more. YI believes that a strong democracy depends on equitable participation, and that starts with empowering the next generation to speak out and lead. Young people are the most diverse voting bloc, so educating and empowering young people is the only want to shape the strongest democracy for the future.
Young adults face real challenges when it comes to participating in our democracy. When voting, many are casting a ballot for the first time, often while navigating frequent moves, confusing state laws, and busy school or work schedules that make getting to the polls difficult. And lately, too many states have been putting up new barriers instead of breaking them down. That’s why YI pushes for policies that make voting easier and more accessible, so every young person has a voice in shaping our communities and our country.
To boost youth civic engagement, Young Invincibles founded the Students Learn Students Vote Coalition (SLSV), now an independent organization and the largest nonpartisan group focused on increasing college student voting. Working with more than 400 partners and 2,000 campuses, SLSV helps students and institutions overcome barriers to voting and make democratic participation a core part of student life.
