Young Invincibles Statement on Hart Research Findings Around Financial Aid Reform and American Dream 2.0

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Young Invincibles worked with HCM Strategists and other key stakeholders in higher education on the just released “The American Dream 2.0” project on financial aid reform. Young Invincibles sought to ensure that the student voice was a part of the conversation. Young Invincibles also reviewed the new polling and focus group research from Hart Research about financial aid reform.

Young Invincibles released the following statement from Co-Founder & Executive Director, Aaron Smith:

“These findings send a clear signal to policymakers that students and families need reform now. We must invest in ways that make college more affordable, reduce student debt, increase completion rates, and expand access. The status quo is not working when some institutions have completion rates in the single digits and skyrocketing student loan default rates. Students must lead the charge for real change.”

Young Invincibles recently released a white paper outlining specific policy reforms to the federal financial aid system. In 2013, the organization will launch a “National Student Impact Campaign” to grow the student movement around higher education reform at the national and state level, with a particular focus on improving college affordability and reducing student debt.
