Young Invincibles Release Report Reframing the Narrative Around Apprenticeship Programs

(Austin, TX) – Today, Young Invincibles released Telling the Right Stories: How Narratives Can Shift Apprenticeship in Texas, a report analyzing the current landscape of the apprenticeship narrative in Texas and outlining necessary recommendations to provide best practices for those looking to change their approach to discussing apprenticeships.

Telling the Right Stories: How Narratives Can Shift Apprenticeship in Texas identifies positive ways to change the narrative around apprenticeships, which strategies help increase awareness of apprenticeships, and recommends best practices for scaling the reach to more young people in Texas. This report is a culmination of carefully crafted mixed-methods research that used quantitative data for broader trends and qualitative insights that provided a deeper understanding of individual perceptions and experiences. The young adult perspective of apprenticeships was foundational to this report, and their expertise guided the research and best practices.

This report outlines recommendations to optimize how apprenticeship leaders and stakeholders can better communicate with young people and help shift the narratives around apprenticeship programs in the broader landscape.

In response, Kasey Corpus, Report Author and Southern Policy and Advocacy Manager at Young Invincibles said:

“With college costs soaring and the financial burden of student debt, young adults are beginning to question the value of a traditional degree, yet inaccurate stigmas continue to prevent participation in one of the most promising alternatives: apprenticeship programs. Despite the immense potential of apprenticeship programs to expand the talent pipeline and offer viable career pathways, outdated perceptions discourage young people from considering this avenue.

This report outlines critical recommendations and best practices to reframe how apprenticeships are viewed, ensuring that young people are able to consider this viable option. By better understanding what resonates with young adults and reshaping the narrative, we can help promote apprenticeship programs as credible pathways to lead young adults to a successful career and financial freedom.”
