Young Invincibles, Kevlyn Park High School Allied Health Program And Rep. Guzzardi To Host Chicago Community Health Care Fair In Lead Up To National Youth Enrollment Day

[CHICAGO]–On Thursday, January 22, 2015, the Millennial think tank and advocacy group Young Invincibles, the Allied Health Program of Kevlyn Park High School and Illinois Rep. Will Guzzardi (IL-39), will host a community health care fair to educate young adults about their new affordable health insurance options under the Affordable Care Act, and to provide guidance for students on how to become health ambassadors at their schools.

The event will take place at Kevlyn Park High School and is timed to help promote National Youth Enrollment Day — the biggest annual day of Millennial enrollment outreach across the country. More than 217,000 Illinoisans enrolled in private health insurance plans during the first Open Enrollment period, but more than 1 in 6 youngIllinoisans still lack health coverage. Millennials – and the greater adult population – have less than one month to select new health insurance plans during this Open Enrollment season, as it ends on February 15.

“Our generation of Millennials ends up in the emergency room more than any other age group, except the elderly. I encourage every young adult in Illinois to join us on Thursday to learn abut their coverage options; many health plans today cost less than the price of a monthly cell phone bill,” said Eve Rips, Midwest Director of Young Invincibles.

While the health care fair is tailored for young adults, all members of the Chicago community with questions about their health insurance options are welcome to attend.

“We’re very excited to partner with Young Invincibles and the great students in the Allied Health program to put together this health fair. This event will bring community members and schools together to provide positive health outcomes for our neighbors and an opportunity for career advancement for our students. It’s an amazing opportunity for everyone involved, and we’re proud to be able to support it,” said Rep. Guzzardi.
