Young Invincibles Celebrates 15 Years of Elevating Youth Voices
(Washington, DC) – Today, Young Invincibles celebrates their 15th anniversary with a Young Adult Summit on Capitol Hill and an Anniversary Party with alumni, staff, and young adults from across the nation.
Founded in a school cafeteria with the goal of expanding health care access for young adults, Young Invincibles has grown over the past 15 years to become the largest young adult policy, advocacy, and research organization in the nation, leading the national conversation on health care, higher education, workforce and finance, and civic engagement. From advocating for the extension of the Affordable Care Act to allow young adults to stay on their parents’ insurance until age 26, to being a leading force in the fight for student debt cancellation, Young Invincibles has revolutionized the way young adults are included in the political sphere.
In true Young Invincibles fashion, the 15th anniversary celebration brings together young advocates from across the nation to discuss mental health action for young adults with key legislators, providing a platform for young leaders to share their experiences. This anniversary not only recognizes the monumental strides Young Invincibles has made but also celebrates the remarkable work young adults have done as the leaders of today.
In response, Kristin McGuire, Executive Director of Young Invincibles said:
“From a small group of students in a Georgetown cafeteria to the largest young adult policy and advocacy organization in the nation, Young Invincibles has fundamentally changed the way policymakers view young adults in the political ecosystem.
Over the last 15 years, Young Invincibles has been instrumental in driving groundbreaking research and pivotal policy changes for young adults. We have played a critical leadership role in the student debt cancellation movement and in the broader conversation about making higher education, workforce credentials, and apprenticeships more affordable and accessible for young people. Ensuring a stable and thriving economic future for young adults is impossible without embedding their voices in the political process. As a result, we have brought thousands of young people to talk with elected officials and fought for state and federal policy wins to secure economic opportunity for young adults.
Young people want to be heard, and Young Invincibles has been fundamental in ensuring that young voices are reflected in the national political conversation. As a leader of this organization, I have never been more proud of the work our staff and the young adults we work with have accomplished, as well as the policy changes we have helped implement. In the truest sense, Young Invincibles crafts and advocates for policies by young adults, for young adults.
The last decade and a half have been just the beginning. I am excited to continue our work over the next five, ten, fifteen years and beyond, and to see the change we will continue to create. Together, we are invincible.”
In response, Veronica Williams, National Youth Advisory Board member said:
“In the last 15 years, Young Invincibles has significantly impacted state and national political conversations, while engaging young people every step of the way. Working with YI has been an eye-opening and empowering experience, allowing me to collaborate with like-minded young adults across the country. I truly feel that my voice matters and that I am contributing not just to my community, but also to the broader community in California. The work that YI is doing is essential because it is laying the foundation for a new generation of young people to have a seat at the table when it comes to the political process. I am honored and proud to be a part of this organization, knowing that I am playing a role in mobilizing positive change.”
