Young Adults Are Setting the Agenda for the Next Two Years
Young Invincibles Releases Federal Policy Agenda for the 119th Congress
(Washington, DC) – Today, Young Invincibles released their federal policy agenda for January 3, 2025 through January 3, 2027, which outlines their dedicated policy focus on economic opportunity as it intersects with health care, higher education, workforce development, and financial security. Following Young Invincibles’ devoted work on mental health in the last year, the new agenda builds upon previous successes and continues the commitment to prioritizing accessible and affordable quality mental health services.
Grounded in rigorous research, extensive community engagement, and a deep understanding of the policy landscape, these proposed policies put the needs of young adults first and provide necessary solutions to aid them in a prosperous future. From expanding the Affordable Care Act’s premium subsidies to championing a federal-state partnership for tuition-free public higher education, and from reforming SNAP eligibility for students to advocating for a raised federal minimum wage, this year’s priorities are both ambitious and solutions-focused.
This agenda was crafted in collaboration with young adults, whose expertise and concerns were integral to every step of the process. Gathered through surveys, focus groups, and feedback sessions, their insights guided the process and helped identify the most pressing issues for young adults under the forthcoming administration. As outlined in this agenda, Young Invincibles remains steadfast in its commitment to amplifying the voices of young adults and ensuring their active engagement in driving progress, regardless of which administration is in power.
The agenda would not have been possible without the gracious help and input from YI’s National Youth Advisory Board and regional Youth Advisory Boards.
In response, Kristin McGuire, Executive Director of Young Invincibles said:
“Our mission has always been, and will always be, to uplift the voices of young adults and ensure their concerns are heard and addressed. What young people need and deserve does not change just because the occupant of the White House does. Young Invincibles is ready to fight for young people and we intend to spend the next two years working diligently to make sure young adults are deeply involved with shaping the future of our country.
Our two-year policy agenda allows us to create a strong foundation with partners, stakeholders, and key legislators, that will help us advance critical legislation across the finish line. We will continue to protect and build upon successes that we have had in the last few years, while finding ways to move forward and make progress in new places.
Young adults are at the core of progress and we must ensure that their needs are being respected and heard. Young Invincibles remains committed to making space for young voices and fighting for economic opportunity for young people in this country.”
