The Chronicle of Higher Education: End Tax-Exempt Bonds for Colleges, Says Youth Advocacy Group

Excerpt from The Chronicle’s blog The Ticker:

“In arguing against tax-exempt bonds, the student-advocacy group says this financing method, used by colleges to secure funds for large, expensive projects, is inefficient and costly to taxpayers. In place of tax-exempt bonds, Young Invincibles proposes that the federal government embrace tax-credit bonds. Instead of subsidizing the interest paid on the bond through the tax exemption, the government would extend a tax credit to bondholders, and thereby lower borrowing costs for itself, since the government issues its own tax-exempt bonds.” Read more here.
