Senate Takes One Step Closer to Taking Health Care Coverage Away from Millions of Young People

[WASHINGTON]–Senate Republicans voted affirmatively on a motion to proceed to debate repealing the Affordable Care Act, which has helped more than 8 million young adults gain coverage since it was signed into law. Jen Mishory, Executive Director of Young Invincibles, released the following statement on the vote:

“Today Senate Republicans voted to proceed blindly in considering legislation that will cut off access to health care coverage for millions of young people, most of whom are low-income. Senators did this with no public bill text, no CBO score, no public hearings, nor input from health care experts. By cutting Medicaid, cutting subsidies, gutting protections, and increasing out-of-pocket costs, Senate Republicans’ various repeal and replacement strategies would make it much harder, not easier, for millions of young adults to access and afford health care.”
