Record Enrollment Numbers Ahead of National Youth Enrollment Day

National Youth Enrollment Day Helps Young Adults Find Affordable Health Coverage

(Washington, DC) – Today, Young Invincibles and partners are celebrating National Youth Enrollment Day (NYED) to get the word out to young adults about their affordable health coverage options.

The 12th annual open enrollment has had a record 23.6 million people sign up for coverage through the marketplace with still a week left to enroll. This surge in sign ups can at least in part be attributed to the enhanced premium tax credits provided through the Inflation Reduction Act, which make ACA coverage more affordable, but are set to expire at the end of this year. It is critical Congress act to make these tax credits a permanent lifeline for those young people in need of quality, affordable health coverage.

Unfortunately, this number does not include many Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, who earlier this year gained access to marketplace coverage, only to have that access ripped away in 19 states due to an inhumane lawsuit by those states.

National Youth Enrollment Day acts as a catalyst for young adults, encouraging them to enroll in coverage and ensuring they have the resources they need to choose a plan that suits their needs. The deadline to enroll is January 15th, visit HealthCare.gov to sign up.

In response, Mina Schultz, Health Care Policy and Advocacy Manager at Young Invincibles said:

“Affordable and accessible health care is a right and imperative for young adults to thrive. National Youth Enrollment Day is critical to connect young adults with the necessary tools, information, and Navigators to help them find an ACA marketplace health plan that works best for them, before the January 15th deadline.

We have seen record enrollment this year and anticipate that this number will continue to climb. Finding coverage that works for you can be confusing. NYED works to bridge the gap and help young adults feel comfortable and confident in knowing where to go to sign up, and how to find free, expert help from ACA Navigators. Navigators can answer questions and help you pick a plan that suits your needs; you can find Navigator support at GetCoveredAmerica.org. The deadline to enroll is January 15th.”
