Washington, DC – Moments ago, the United States Senate voted to confirm the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Over the course of a long confirmation fight in the Senate, polling showed that young people were consistently opposed to confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

In response to the confirmation vote, Rachel Fleischer, Executive Director of Young Invincibles, issued the following statement:

“Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation is devastating. It means there will now be one more vote on our highest court that doesn’t represent the values or interests of young America. With the confirmation vote today, the Trump agenda will have a stronger hold on the Supreme Court, including dismantling the Affordable Care Act and curtailing voting rights. Young adults have opposed Kavanaugh’s nomination throughout this process, even more so when credible and disturbing allegations about his character came to light.

Young people now face the reality of key Supreme Court cases decided in part by this Justice who does not represent the best of this country. The last few months made it clear that young people understood the stakes of this nomination, with so many calling their Senators, showing up at protests, and even sharing publicly very personal stories, sometimes for the first time. Despite today’s disastrous outcome, we know the energy and activism unleashed by this nomination fight will fuel us for the battles ahead. Young people will not stop fighting for their future.”
