Andrew Meyer, a senior studying organizational psychology, along with Young Invincibles, an advocacy group based out of Washington DC, has planned an event Nov. 9 called “Making Cents: The Financials of Higher Education.”

This event, which was discussed at Monday night’s Graduate Student Senate meeting, aims to bring state representatives to campus and meet with students to discuss the financial aspects of a university.

Held in Walter 235, the free event will host colleges from throughout Athens County, such as Hocking College and OU’s branch campuses.

Broken into four parts, the five hour event will kick off with a session at 11 a.m. called “University revenues and expenses.”

The following session called “Board of Regents and SSI,” will start at noon and feature the board’s Chancellor of Finance, David Cannon.

Avalanche Pizza will be served during an hour-long break, followed by the session “State Discussions and Political Voice,” in which State Representative Debbie Phillips, D-Albany, will speak, followed by an open discussion on how to move forward.

“We do work closely with people who work with OU’s budget. (This is a) great time for us to see how the other side works,” said GSS President Joel Newby.

Tickets are not required, however voluntary registration is available on the event’s website, makingcents.eventbrite.com.
