Founded in 2012, the YI Western Regional Office works out of Los Angeles to advocate for strengthening economic opportunity and increasing political participation for young adults in California and the broader Western region. Since its founding, YI West has worked on top issues related to jobs, higher education, and health care.
We currently lead state-level campaigns connected to college affordability, food security for students, and career and technical education. YI West has provided over 8,000 young adults in the region with consumer and policy information on health care, higher education, and employment. We run ongoing advocacy days in Sacramento, including hosting our signature leadership training program, Young Advocates. We launched a trailblazing consumer-facing tool with the California Community Colleges, the Here to Career mobile app, which provides early-career navigation that helps young adults learn more about in-demand career pathways available through the California Community College System.
Read below for research, policy ideas, and fact sheets related to economic opportunity for young adults in the area, and check out our 2023 legislative priorities. If you’re interested in partnering or joining our work in California or the Western Region more generally, we’d love to hear from you!
