Christopher Hendrix

Christopher Hendrix
He/Him/His
Christopher is an innovative individual with a passion for public service and civic engagement.
He currently works as a Domestic Program Intern at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, providing support to researchers and other staff as needed in topics concerning the United States economy. His goals are to continue work in the nonprofit and public sector realm, engaging in initiatives that increase equity and access in areas related to higher education and workforce development. His lived experiences also include international education and leadership development.

 

 

Angelica Martinez RuizAngelica Martinez Ruiz
She/Her/Ella
Born and raised in Santa Maria, California, Angelica is a passionate individual who has made it her mission to provide opportunities she has received to those around her.
A proud first-generation Mexican American, Angelica is a senior majoring in Health Science with a Minor in Biological Sciences at the California State University of Sacramento.
Throughout her academic career, she has volunteered at local hospitals, school districts, and has even served as a Sacramento Valley College Corps Fellow in aiding the push for climate action. Her passion lies within the advocacy for growth, positive change and focusing on issues like higher education affordability, accessible healthcare, economic equity and social justice.

 

Desiree Thomas

Desiree is a 1st year at Sacramento State University, majoring in Biological Sciences.
Her curiosity and passion to learn about the world has led her to pretty incredible places.
She maintains a position at a plant pathology lab, an internship and a position at a fishery research lab. Despite her troubled background, through education, Desiree achieved the feat of being the first in her family to graduate high school and attend college; emancipating herself at age 16. One of her goals is to fight for access to higher education for all.

 

Jennifer Lopez

JLo- Jennifer Lopez
They/Them/Ella
Jennifer Lopez, known as JLo, is a passionate advocate for equitable urban development and community empowerment. Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at Cal Poly Pomona, JLo’s journey began after completing their undergraduate studies at Sonoma State in Women’s and Gender Studies with minors in Queer Studies y Chicano Studies. Aiming to address the pressing issues of gentrification and tenant displacement plaguing their community, they returned to their native Boyle Heights. Still, they continue their community involvement and leadership through being a sister of Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority co-chair representative for the Graduate caucus@ Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS).

 

 

Rogelio Espinoza

Rogelio Espinoza

Rogelio Espinoza (He/Him/El) is a San Diego native and attended San Diego State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in International Security Resolution. Upon graduation, he began his career in the nonprofit sector working in workforce development programs that help at-risk youth achieve meaningful educational and employment milestones. Recently, Rogelio attended the University of San Diego and received his masters degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management and became a certified leadership coach. Currently, Rogelio continues to work in the nonprofit space and is a credentialed Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and works with leaders and individuals to create personal and community transformation through values alignment, empowerment, and acceptance.

 

Jaylin Dxey

Jaylin Doxey
She/her/Hers
Jaylin Doxey is currently an undergraduate at the University of California, Merced, majoring in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies with a minor in Sociology. Her goal coming out of the YAP program is to understand policy from the standpoint of being another form of helping communities. Prior to joining YAP, Jaylin thought the only way she could help communities was limited to direct service. However through her work with POCA and now Young Invincibles, she is learning how to further help the community through the means of policy making and advocacy.
She is grateful to join this cohort and is looking forward to expanding her interest in helping the community in her own right.

 

 

DorlinsDorlins Arely Villalobos
She/her
Dorlins Arely Villalobos, a first-generation student-parent, is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public policy at the University of California, Riverside. Her initial perception of higher education as a means to an end shifted during the pandemic when she witnessed profound racial disparities in her community. Fueled by personal experiences, Dorlins developed a keen interest in the history of racial and social inequalities, inspiring her goal of effecting positive change. Excited to begin with YI, she is committed to creating a better society for her son, community, and future generations.

 

 

ElyzabethElyzabeth Andersen
She/Her/Hers
Elyzabeth Andersen earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science with a minor in Education at California State University, Monterey Bay. She is currently enrolled in a teacher credentialing program at California State University, Northridge in order to earn her Foundational Mathematics and Education Specialist (Mild/Moderate and Extensive Support Needs) Credentials. She has worked in special education with students ranging in age from 3 to 19 for three years and is starting her second year on the Reproductive Health Equity Project’s Youth Advisory Board. She is passionate about removing systemic barriers to ensure equitable access to the education and healthcare systems, especially among underserved and underrepresented communities.

 

 

AndreaAndrea Morales

Andrea Morales, a proud member of the P’urepecha Indigenous community from Michoacan, and a graduate of UC Irvine. She is currently the chair for the Women’s Native Indigenous Caucus for Mujeres Activas En Letras Y Cambio Social. In addition to her expertise in social media management, she is a dedicated storyteller, using narratives to bridge cultural gaps and foster understanding. Furthermore, she actively contributes to the restoration of Indigenous leadership practices, embodying a commitment to preserving cultural heritage. Andrea weaves together a narrative of education, advocacy, and cultural resurgence, leaving an enduring impact on both Indigenous communities and the broader societal landscape.

 

 

MycahMycah Lewis
She/Her/Hers
Mycah Lewis is an impassioned advocate and dedicated full-time student at San Jose State University, where she is pursuing a major in African American Studies alongside minors in Child Development, with a specialization in community focus, and Sociology. Raised within marginalized communities, Mycah intimately understands the hardships and injustices faced by many. These firsthand experiences have fueled her commitment to advocacy and empowerment. Driven by a desire to amplify the voices of the unheard, Mycah aspires to leverage her education and experiences to foster social justice and equality for all. Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of empathy and action in creating a more equitable world.

 

 

ChizuChizu Ukachi-Nwata
He/Him/His
Chizu Ukachi-Nwata is an educator, artist, and budding human rights advocate. Having worked primarily in education and healthcare, he has aspired to make a difference in the field of human rights, recognizing the need and importance in safeguarding freedoms and waging justice for all. An artist at heart, Chizu understands the importance of multidimensionality in the emerging world and continues to find ways to cultivate his artistry in tandem with his other work. As Young Invincibles is committed to empowering young adults to change and impact the world around them, Chizu is hopeful that this opportunity as a Young Advocate will be purposeful for his part in helping to create a better world for all.

 

Harmeet

Haari (Harmeet) Suner
She/Her
This is Harmeet (Haari) Suner. She is a third-year Philosophy major who plans to attend law school after obtaining her Bachelor’s. She is an aspiring international human rights lawyer. Her goals are to help those experiencing human rights violations, including but not limited to journalists, world leaders, and refugees. She has always been interested in community service and has been an active volunteer in her community, from cleaning public areas to providing food for the houseless. While she is still in the early stages of her law career, she has long been on her way to providing assistance to others.
