Juno Rivera (they/them)
I am an advocate for the Alief community. Coming from a smaller area of Houston has allowed me to closely witness and analyze the disparities my community faces. I hope to find and create solutions through my work in advocacy; outside of which I am an artist! I’ve always enjoyed creating and expressing my values in such a subjective form. In high school, I created a promotional piece encouraging young voters to become involved in the political process, and was one of five students, in a senior class of about 1,000 students, to receive a prize for my work. I’m on a mission to take my work in civic engagement and implement it into my daily life, helping others make informed and educated decisions.

Her resiliency and advocacy skills combined with her desire to dismantle systems of oppression has led her to serve as the Black Student Union President, Student Government President, Wisconsin Student Government Governor, as well as serve as the State Ambassador who represents all of MATC. Marissa’s ability to communicate, motivate, relate, and listen to her peers has led her on multiple journeys to both Wisconsin’s State Capitol and the United States Capitol to lobby elected officials on behalf of students and the education system.
