HB 8 passes Texas House and Creates Opportunity for Future of Higher Education

(Austin, TX) –  Today, the Texas House of Representatives passed House Bill 8, which would advance the recommendations made by the Texas Commission on Community College Finance on how the state should invest in our community college system.

Young Invincibles helped lead the Student Advisory Council to help inform the Texas Commission on Community College Finance, and ensure the commission included student’s voices. The council includes first-generation college students, armed forces veterans, student government leaders, and Texans of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds.

HB 8 will move onto the Senate before being voted on and sent to the Governor’s desk.

In response, Kasey Corpus, Policy and Advocacy Manager at Young Invincibles said:

“We are thrilled that HB 8 has passed through the House and is headed to the Senate. The recommendations outlined by the Texas Commission on Community College Finance are critical to ensuring a prosperous future for young Texans.

The Student Advisory Council that Young Invincibles helped co-lead helped inform these recommendations, and it is inspiring to see change made by young adults. Their contagious passion has encouraged many other Texans to fight alongside them. As HB 8 moves into the Senate, we will continue to advocate for accessible and equitable opportunities in higher education.”
