Friends With Benefits

Originally posted on the Young Democrats of America Blog

Here’s some good news.  Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act last year, more than 500,000 previously uninsured young Americans now have health care.  There’s no doubt that this increase is a direct result of the youth provisions in the new law.

But our work is far from finished.  We need a few more “friends with benefits” (health care benefits!).  We all still have friends, roommates, coworkers and family members who are uninsured, often because they are unaware of the new available options.

As young Americans return to campuses across the nation and recent graduates begin their careers, YDA is proud to partner with the Young Invincibles to help spread the word about the Affordable Care Act.  We want to makes sure our generation is armed with the knowledge to make the best decisions for their health care.

This is officially “Friends With Benefits” Health Care Benefits Week across the country.  Help us spread the word to your network of friends.  For information about health care options in your state, please visit two useful websites:

These are important links you can share over the next several days.  If you’re tweeting this information, use #FriendsWithBenefits.

As always, we welcome your stories, as well. If you have been impacted by the passage of the Affordable Health Care Act, please send your stories to communications@yda.org and we will post it to our blog!

Let’s continue to do our part to make access to quality and affordable health care a reality for all young Americans!

Sincerely,
