[WASHINGTON]–Tonight, news reports suggest that the Department of Education is considering only partial federal loan forgiveness for students who were defrauded by for-profit colleges. Young Invincibles released the following statement:

“We are deeply concerned to see reports that the Department of Education may be considering a change in policy that would provide only partial loan relief for students who have been defrauded,” said Rory O’Sullivan, Acting Executive Director of Young Invincibles. “Tens of thousands of students have made major investments in higher education institutions that misrepresented or outright lied about the quality of their programs. These students often have few job prospects despite owing thousands in debt. Getting relief from their loans may be the only lifeline that allows them to get back on track. We urge the Department to put the interests of students first and continue providing full relief for those who have been defrauded.”
