Deep In The Heart of Advocacy Brings Young Texans from Across the State to Advocate for Key Issues
(Austin, TX) – Friday, Young Invincibles hosted Deep in the Heart of Advocacy, a version of the annual advocacy day the YI Texas office holds. This is the first time the event was in person after three years of virtual events due to Covid-19.
Deep in the Heart of Advocacy allowed students to connect with their legislators and voice their concerns. Nearly 100 young adults from Austin, Houston, and East Texas rallied together for accessible higher education, increased workforce opportunities, equitable health care access, and civic engagement. To ensure the event was accessible, American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish translators were available throughout the day for those in attendance.
In response, Travis Evans, Southern Regional Director for Young Invincibles said:
“Deep in the Heart of Advocacy brought young Texans from across the state together to advocate for change. Seeing young adults travel hours to the capitol to voice their concerns and meet with their elected officials is inspiring. This next generation of leaders is fiercely determined, they have a vision in mind for the future of Texas and they are ready to make a difference.
After several advocacy days, our first one back in-person was surreal. We made our presence known and were able to have influential conversations about higher education supports, health care access, mental health resources, and workforce pathways. We will continue to uplift the voices of young Texans and support change by and for young adults.”
