Advocates Call for Financial Relief for Students at Failed Corinthian College Programs
[WASHINGTON]–Yesterday, Corinthian Colleges announced that it was shutting down its remaining 28 campuses after being fined by the U.S. Department of Education for falsifying job placement rates. Jennifer Wang, Policy Director at Young Invincibles, released the following statement on the news:
“For years, for-profit education programs run by Corinthian have made billions of dollars off the backs of hardworking students trying to gain skills needed to compete in today’s economy. Unfortunately, Corinthian’s deceitful tactics led many students to take on debt for training and degrees that did not lead to better employment outcomes. While we are pleased to see failed programs being held accountable, ill-served students shouldn’t be saddled with debt they cannot pay off because their school failed to uphold its end of the bargain. We must provide these students with immediate financial relief.”
