(Washington, DC) – Today, President Joseph R. Biden signed a series of executive orders to increase federal worker wages and expand federal benefits limited by the previous administration, including enhanced aid approved in the last round of Covid-19 relief legislation. The order will increase the weekly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for an estimated 12 million families and a separate increase to an emergency food relief benefit for students no longer receiving free meals in school. Additionally, President Biden directed the Treasury Department to accelerate stimulus checks for the nearly eight million eligible people who have not received them, including the first $1,200 checks passed in March and $600 checks passed in December.

Rachel Fleischer, Executive Director for Young Invincibles issued the following statement:

“We commend President Biden and his administration for their clear sense of urgency and quick action to provide desperately needed federal relief as millions of Americans await previously approved survival checks. Ensuring millions of families across the country get access to emergency food assistance in the middle of a global pandemic and economic downturn is paramount to the health and wellbeing of those who need it most. We must employ all tools at our disposal to provide federal relief.
