Youth unemployment is a major issue, especially in the state of New York. Though 51 percent of New York’s labor market is made up of middle skill jobs – jobs that require education beyond high school but not a four-year degree – the opportunities to receive training for those positions can be limited and many young adults aren’t aware of those opportunities that do exist. These middle-skill jobs tend to pay considerably more than minimum wage and could help remedy prevalence of youth unemployment throughout the state.
