Fullerton Ribbon Cutting Event to Celebrate New Charter School
[FULLERTON, Calif.] – Orange County Conservation Corps (OCCC) is partnering with Young Invincibles, a leading national group, on the ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate OCCC’s new charter school on September 27. While over 500 young adults have graduated with a high school diploma from OCCC educational programs in the past, this last year marked the first graduating class of the Orange County Conservation Corps Charter School – a charter school on the organization’s premises. In honor of this first year, officials such as Mayor Bruce Whitaker, Senator Lou Correa, and Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva will attend. The ribbon cutting will be conducted by Theresa Harvey, Fullerton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. WHAT: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in honor of the Orange County Conservation Corps Charter School launch WHERE: Orange County Conservation Corps, 1548 E. Walnut Ave., Fullerton, CA 92831 WHEN: Friday, September 27, 1:30-2:30 PM Sometimes called a “Second Chance at Success,” for thousands of young adults the OCCC is a last chance to avoid gangs, stay free of drug abuse, avert incarceration, and ultimately ensure a positive life for themselves as working, productive members of our community. The school provides first-rate California High School Exit Exam preparation as well as California Standard based instruction in all academic subjects required by the state. This high-quality education prepares students to find good jobs that might have otherwise eluded them. This event is one of fifteen stops on the Young Invincibles National Jobs Tour. With the unemployment rate for young adults in California standing at 20.2 percent—about twice the state average, Young Invincibles is highlighting the need to expand the workforce training and job creation programs which are so vital to our generation’s future.
