12th Annual Open Enrollment Begins, Opportunity for Record Enrollment Rates
(Washington, DC) – Today, the twelfth annual Open Enrollment period for people to enroll in new health insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace begins and will run through January 15th. During the previous national Open Enrollment period over 21.3 million people signed up for coverage through the marketplace.
Young adults have the highest uninsured rate of any age group with more than one in five young adults being uninsured. The ACA Marketplace offers health insurance plans, many for less than $10/month.
This is the first year that Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients can enroll in health coverage through the ACA Marketplace. Additionally, HealthCare.gov will now provide those who complete an application nonpartisan voter registration information.
Open Enrollment is open from today until January 15th. To enroll in a new plan, visit HealthCare.gov.
In response, Mina Schultz, Health Care Policy and Advocacy Manager at Young Invincibles said:
“Young adults need access to quality, affordable health coverage now more than ever. Young people have been and continue to remain as the largest uninsured group in the nation.
This Open Enrollment is monumental. It is the first time DACA recipients are eligible to get covered through the ACA marketplace. An estimated 100,000 DACA recipients are anticipated to sign up for coverage, setting this year up for historic numbers of enrollment. Access to affordable care is life-changing and allows people to prioritize their mental and physical well-being.
Earlier this year, the Biden-Harris Administration made a historic, $500 investment in the Navigator program. Navigators are a crucial part of helping people get enrolled and we applaud their dedicated work during this Open Enrollment period. To find coverage that works for you go to HealthCare.gov between now and January 15th.”
