YI was started by a group of students who were ready to stand up and make a difference by creating a long-term organizational infrastructure to support policies and programs that address economic challenges young people face in our country. Today, eight years later, we have a national organization operating in states across the country, running impactful campaigns that help millions of young people. We’ve done a lot, though of course there is so much left to do.
But as is the case with any founder-led organization, it comes time for its next leader to take the reins. One of our founders and current Executive Director, Jen Mishory, told YI’s board at the beginning of this year that 2017 was the year for YI’s founders to pass the baton to new leadership committed to building on this infrastructure, and for her own next steps.
“When we started Young Invincibles, we wanted to create a vehicle for giving young Americans a real voice in the decisions impacting their lives and future,” said Ari Matusiak, co-founder and YI Board chair. “Jen has taken that vision and turned it into a powerful reality. Young Invincibles is making a real and positive impact in the lives of millions of young people across the country. That is a testament to Jen’s leadership, drive, and focus. We will miss her greatly, but are forever grateful for the strong foundation she built.”
The YI board has retained an executive search firm to lead a nationwide search and bring on a new Executive Director by September. Jen will stay on through October, and even after she leaves, will launch YI’s Council of Advisors, an external network comprised of YI’s greatest fans ready to support the work going forward.
So please – join the YI family as we build a country where our health care, education, and workforce systems work for young people trying to start their adult lives.
