Young Adult Outreach and the ACA: Educating Young Americans

On June 28, 2012, the Supreme Court upheld the individual mandate of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“ACA”), paving the way for continued implementation of the law. The ACA has already covered 3.1 million young adults who were previously uninsured, but even more will gain insurance in 2014. Assuming all states choose to expand Medicaid, approximately eight million currently uninsured young adults (18-34) could be eligible for Medicaid benefits. An additional nine million uninsured young adults could qualify for tax credits for health insurance purchased on state exchanges.
