Healthy Young America Mobile App Sweepstakes Offers Consumers Chance at Free Coverage for a Year

Sweepstakes Will Be Part of Push to Educate Young Uninsured About Financial Assistance Available Under the ACA

[WASHINGTON]—Today, Young Invincibles launched the Healthy Young America Mobile App Sweepstakes in an effort to encourage consumers to calculate their savings under the law. By entering the Sweepstakes, entrants could win $1,200, about the average cost of health care coverage for an uninsured young person for a year on the new Health Insurance Marketplace. The contest will run through October 15, 2014. To enter the contest, consumers should download the Healthy Young America mobile application and complete a quick entry form to be sent to them via push notification.

“Nearly 8 in 10 currently uninsured young adults qualify for free or significantly discounted coverage under the ACA, but too many of them do not know they qualify for financial help,” said Aaron Smith, Co-Founder and Executive Director at Young Invincibles. “This innovative contest will connect consumers to important resources that will raise awareness about the financial assistance available under the law.”

As the country’s most uninsured age group, young adults understandably have the lowest rates of health insurance literacy. The Healthy Young America mobile app helps bridge the literacy gap by providing consumers with a list of important health insurance-related terms and answers FAQs about health insurance and the ACA. Additionally, consumers can use the app to find out where they can get local in-person enrollment assistance.

A recent study by the Pew Research Center found that smartphone ownership is higher among blacks and Latinos, groups that disproportionately qualify for financial help under the law. The Pew study also found that Latinos and blacks also use more of their cell phone’s features, including web browsing, text messaging, and multimedia.

The Healthy Young America mobile application is available on the iTunes and Google Play stores. For more information, please visit app.healthyyoungamerica.org. No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. Odds of winning will depend on the number of eligible entries received. Void where prohibited by law.
