Young Invincibles’ Statement on the SKILLS Act

[WASHINGTON, DC] This morning the House of Representative passed the SKILLS Act (HR 803) which would effectively eliminate $1 billion for employment and training services that reach approximately 235,000 young people across the nation. That would follow $1 billion in cuts to youth job training over the last decade.

Rory O’Sullivan, Policy and Research Director at Young Invincibles said, “At a time when youth unemployment is twice the national average, the SKILLS Act would gut employment and training services for young Americans. Our generation deserves better from our representatives in Congress. We need to be investing in young people to prepare them for the jobs of the 21st century, rather than creating more barriers to jobs and economic opportunity.”

Young Invincibles recently released a fact sheet “HR 803 Effectively Eliminates Youth Employment and Training Services.” To read the full fact sheet, visit https://younginvincibles.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/HR-803-Fact-Sheet.pdf
