Young Invincibles’ Statement on Avoiding Sequestration

[WASHINGTON, DC] –Today, the Administration urged Congress to pass a small package of spending cuts and tax loophole closures to stave off automatic spending cuts know as the sequester scheduled for March 1. The required cuts to discretionary programs in sequester would reduce investments in important areas like job training and education by over 5 percent. Aaron Smith, Co-founder and Executive Director of Young Invincibles, made the following statement:

“We are hopeful that our leaders in Washington can come together to act responsibly to avoid the sequester and put our nation on firm fiscal footing. The sequester is bad policy; its short-sighted cuts to things like education and training investments will hamper our generation’s ability to compete in the global economy for years to come. Young Americans need a comprehensive, balanced approach the prioritizes key investments and addresses our long-term debt.”
