Young Invincibles Names Jen Mishory New Executive Director

Replaces Co-Founder Aaron Smith as Executive Director

[WASHINGTON]— Young Invincibles’ Board of Directors has unanimously endorsed and appointed Jen Mishory to succeed group co-founder Aaron Smith as Executive Director of the national policy, advocacy and mobilization organization for 18- to 34- year olds.  Mishory assumes her new position after serving as Deputy Director of Young Invincibles since the organization’s founding in 2009. Mishory oversaw Young Invincibles’ growth from a volunteer organization formed in a law school cafeteria to a national organization with nearly 50 paid staff and offices in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington. Mishory’s responsibilities have also included leading the policy, research, communications, and outreach staff at Young Invincibles.

“We are incredibly excited to announce Jen Mishory as the new Executive Director of Young Invincibles,” said Matt Singer, Board Chair of Young Invincibles. “Jen’s leadership, vision, policy smarts, and management skills will help to take Young Invincibles to another level in our ability to create real change for young adults.”

“It has been a great honor and privilege to build Young Invincibles and help my generation gain a voice on issues ranging from health care to employment to higher education, all of which are so critical for our future,” said Aaron Smith, Senior Strategic Advisor of Young Invincibles and President of the new non-profit, YI Advisors. “Jen’s talent and passion for this work make her the perfect choice to take Young Invincibles to the next level as our new Executive Director.” Smith’s new venture, YI Advisors, is an affiliated non-profit consulting organization providing strategic advice to mission-aligned clients on how to engage young adults.

“We are close to the five-year mark since Young Invincibles set out to provide a voice for our generation in the health care reform debate,” said Jen Mishory, Executive Director of Young Invincibles. “In that time, our organization has added higher education and jobs to our agenda, grown to include five regional offices so we can make a direct impact in key communities, and become a go-to for policy analysis and solutions for young adults.  Every day we learn more about how to engage this generation in helping realize the change we need.  I’m thrilled to help lead this impressive and dedicated staff as we face new challenges.”

Mishory has delivered expert testimony in front of Congressional committees in both the House and Senate, served as the lead consumer advocacy negotiator for the Department of Education’s 2012 negotiated rulemaking on student loans, was an inaugural member on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Consumer Advisory Board, and represented young consumers on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Mishory is a leading communicator on issues important to the Millennial generation, including health care, higher education, jobs, and the economy. Mishory routinely appears in top media outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Politico, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, and National Public Radio.
