Statement: Trump’s Newest Attack on Health Care Will Jeopardize Access to Essential Services for Young Adults

Last night the Trump Administration released a proposed rule that would drastically restrict access to critical health services including preventative care, comprehensive family planning, and reproductive health services by blocking federal Title X funding to any organization that provides abortions – most notably, Planned Parenthood – or refers patients to places that do. Young adults, including women, communities of color, low-income individuals, and the uninsured, rely on Title X providers for affordable access to necessary health care services like cancer screenings, well-women exams, and birth control.

In response to the proposed rule, Caitlin Morris, Policy and Research Director at Young Invincibles, issued the following statement:

“The Administration, in its ongoing crusade against health care and against women, has proposed a policy that would devastate the Title X network of health care providers. If implemented, this rule would jeopardize the health of young adults and the millions of low-income and otherwise underserved individuals that rely on their services. This is yet another backdoor attempt to restrict access to necessary health care and a demonstration of how determined the Trump Administration is to dismantle our health care system, deny access to services, and prevent people in our country from getting the care they need.”

The Administration will open a 60 day public comment period on the proposed rule after it is published in the Federal Register.
