Rate of Uninsured Young Adults in South Carolina Higher Than National Average
In South Carolina 31 percent of 18-34 year olds are uninsured; 38 percent in North Charleston.

[COLUMBIA, S.C.] –Today, Young Invincibles released a detailed analysis of uninsurance rates for young people in South Carolina. The fact sheet, Who Needs Coverage in South Carolina, [https://younginvincibles.org/2013/04/who-needs-health-care-coverage-in-south-carolina/] shows that young adults in South Carolina face a significantly higher uninsurance rate than the national average of 27 percent. The report finds that:

o       Young men have a higher uninsurance rate than young women; 36 percent of young men in South Carolina are uninsured.
o       Uninsurance rates are particularly high for young Latinos; 71 percent of Latinos age 25-34 are uninsured in South Carolina.
o       Up to 142,000 18-34 year old South Carolinians could be eligible for tax credits on the online health insurance marketplaces set to open this fall.

On Monday, April 29th, Young Invincibles will partner with Upstate AHEC to host a training for area stakeholders on ways the ACA could reduce the high youth uninsurance rates, and outreach methods for engaging young adults.
