Washington, D.C. – Young Invincibles has released a new report, titled The Future of Millennial Jobs, that explores the future of the labor force for Millennials and how higher education can better align with future job market demands.

The report finds that many young adults, ages 18 to 34 years-old, are uniquely prepared for jobs of the future with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively navigate workforce opportunities, yet points to reasons for concern, too: a growing number of Millennials, lacking access to technology and other resources, will be left behind.

“Despite the unemployment rate dropping, we know that too many Millennials are struggling in low-wage sectors that may not set them up for careers or financial security. With Millennials expected to make up 50 percent of the workforce by 2020, everyone has a stake in our generation’s success. Policymakers must work to align our higher education system with new demands in the workforce,” according to report authors Tom Allison and Konrad Mugglestone.

The report culls dozens of surveys evaluating Millennials’ unique attributes in the workforce, employers’ priorities and demands, and predicted trends in the future economy. It includes data from the U.S. Census’s 2014 Current Population Survey, showing changes in Millennial employment by job sector over the past 10 years and looks at recent workforce trends that could impact future shifts in workforce supply and demand.

Please be in touch if you would like to speak with a report author. We are happy to provide data sets, and to discuss our findings.
