Congress to Vote on Bill that Would Dismantle Health Care System

WASHINGTON-This week, members of Congress are expected to vote on H.R. 1, a bill that would negatively transform our country’s tax system. The bill includes a provision to eliminate the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) individual mandate, which would dismantle our healthcare system and result in 13 million fewer people with health insurance by 2027. Reid Setzer, Young Invincibles’ Government Affairs Director, issued the following statement:

“The ACA has allowed an unprecedented number of young adults to get health coverage, and the uninsured rate among this group has been cut in half. The ACA is working for young people, but Congress continues to attack it. This plan would increase the number of uninsured, balloon premiums, and drive some consumers into short-term insurance plans that could fail the up to 31 million young people who have pre-existing conditions. Making our healthcare system worse in order to give huge tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy is wrong. Congress should reject this bill this week.”
