New Figure From HHS Signals Young Adults

Are Retaining Private Health Coverage

[WASHINGTON] — Today, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that on August 15, 2014, 7.3 million Americans were enrolled in health insurance coverage through HealthCare.gov, or a state marketplace, and had paid their premiums. This number marks the most recent count of people who are covered by the health insurance marketplaces.

“A resounding 9 out of 10 people who applied for Marketplace coverage paid for, and continued to be enrolled, in their coverage on August 15, signaling that Americans – including young adults — want to retain their new health plans. Young Invincibles looks forward to continuing to help young adults get and stay covered,” said Jen Mishory, executive director of Young Invincibles.

Young adults, aged 18 to 34 years-old, accounted for 28 percent of enrollees in the health insurance marketplaces during the first Open Enrollment period.
