MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A new report shows the unemployment rate for young adults in Minnesota is exceedingly high and is about twice the state’s overall average.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in Minnesota, the unemployment rate is 11 percent for young adults, ages 16 to 24. Nationwide, the unemployment rate for young adults is 16.2, which is twice the national average.
On Wednesday, the group, Young Invincibles, released a detailed analysis of unemployment for young people in Minnesota. Their findings include: The average Minnesotans, age 25 to 34, makes almost $2,000 less than in 2005 and the number of young Minnesotans with jobs has fallen 9 percentage points since 2007.
According to their website, Young Invincibles is a nationwide organization that provides facts about youth unemployment and promotes solutions to the challenges facing the younger generations.
