Health Insurance Questions? ZocDoc has Answers!

The healthcare world is changing. As millions of young people get new insurance plans for the first time, consumers will turn to online tools to understand what these plans cover, where to go for care and how to use insurance. We cover some of this information in our new mobile app, but as part of our ongoing effort to educate young people, we recently spoke with Kate Walton from ZocDoc. Kate works on ZocDoc’s Health Marketplace Resource, which breaks health insurance options available for young people. Here are some of the questions she answered for us.

What is ZocDoc?

ZocDoc is a free service that helps users find in-network doctors, book appointments instantly, fill out medical forms online, and more. We’re committed to being your personal health ally. That’s why we just created the ZocDoc Health Marketplace Resource – a place where you can find everything you need to know about the Health Insurance Marketplaces created under the Affordable Care Act.

What kind of information can I find at the Health Marketplace Resource?

We designed the resource to help you learn more about the marketplaces, compare health plans, review access to medical providers and more.

Health care choices can be tough, and information about the Health Insurance Marketplaces is really important! In September, just one month before the beginning of the open enrollment period, 27% of uninsured individuals were unaware of the Health Insurance Marketplaces.

How does ZocDoc break down out-of-pocket (OOP) costs?

We provide information on tax credits and cost reductions.  For example, you get help paying for health insurance when you use the Health Insurance Marketplace if your income is:

You can get help paying for both your monthly premiums and for the cost of medical care, like a doctor’s visit. You also may be able to get free or low-cost health insurance through Medicaid.

What other resources do you provide to people looking for information about health insurance and getting ready to use it for the first time?

You’ll find all sorts of information at our Resource!

FAQs – Answers to common questions, covering a broad array of topics ranging from what a health insurance marketplace is and how it works to how much patients should expect to pay for insurance premiums and more.

Glossary – Easy-to-understand definitions of common insurance and healthcare industry-related terms.

Check out the Resource and let us know what you think! We can’t wait to hear your feedback on Twitter and Facebook. Have any other resources to share? Email me at Jessica.Adair@YoungInvincibles.org.
